I wanted to create something with the feeling of a myth or a fable or a fairy tale, a bit of magical realism, featuring the beloved swans of my local lake (the lovely Lake Mohawk in NW New Jersey). This swan, the star of my half written tale, is preening, removing the foreign wings and feathers and leaves that appear daily in its wings. Or perhaps it is adding these magical bits to integrate the powers of these creatures into its being. The preening swan lays within its hoard of treasures: mushrooms, a fern fiddlehead, water lily pads and flower, turkeytail polypore, mycelium, and honeycomb. Its wings are festooned with a turkey, a blue jay, and a pheasant feather, dragonfly, io moth and dragonfly wings, willow leaves, even rose quartz crystals. In its mouth is a small woodpecker feather.

The stained glass is constructed in seven panels, six small rectangles set above and below the large central panel. These panels are glazed into a vintage wood window frame salvaged from a lake camp in the Adirondacks. So much gorgeous American and German art glass has gone into this piece, every color and texture carefully selected, every single component is special, even the clear background with its antique wavy texture and unusual bubbles. Hang in a window and as the light shifts throughout the day, different colors and iridescence and mottling in the glass will be revealed. Notice the effects of different lighting as you scroll through these photos and videos.

The window measures: 18" x 48" ; 46cm x 122cm

Two hooks are installed in the top for easy hanging. They can be easily removed if necessary. Pricing includes crating, shipping and insurance within the US. Please contact me first if you live outside the US and are interested in purchasing.
