Demilune Window - Remnant

This gorgeous window was inspired by the half moon shape of this vintage window frame, playing with the idea or expanding, growing beyond the window frame, just the way new life grows on the stump remnant of a once mighty tree. The central image in the frame is the tree stump, tree rings created in woody shades of tan and brown, with an outer ring of mossy textured green. The stump is dotted with small Reishi like mushrooms and a little patch of honeycomb. Around the outer rim of the stump are two little fern fiddleheads, and clusters of polypore shelf mushrooms in bright vibrant colors. These three separate pieces were constructed dynamically, not flat, but at slight angles for a lively effect. Two small butterflies perch atop these assemblages.

The finely crafted stained glass panes have been installed in a vintage half moon window frame. The frame came into my hands via a wonderful antiques mill in nearby Lafayette, NJ. The frame has been carefully restored, stripped of its old paint and stained a rich jacobean brown (though it retains its vintage character through the rustic imperfections in the wood).

The window measures 30" x 15" (72cm x 36cm).  The assemblages beyond the frame bring the total height to 18" at the tallest point. They measure approximately 9x6" and 15x5"Two small hooks on the sides make for easy hanging. (They are currently strung with 17" wires for hanging, but can be adjusted to suit your space.) I've tried to show it in different lighting, as the beauty in stained glass is the way it changes and shifts with the light.
